7 Ways to Get the Most Out of Twitter

March 19, 2012

Last week I listened to a Mediabistro presentation by Lauren Dugan, editor of AllTwitter.com.

She listed seven ways to get the most out of 140 characters:

  1. Branding and visibility
  2. Customer support
  3. Customer outreach/feedback
  4. Networking
  5. Internal communication
  6. Generating leads
  7. Supporting other online presences

Lauren also mentioned ways to target your profile effectively:

  1. List important keywords in your Twitter bio to make your account more searchable.
  2. Prioritize these keywords in your bio.
  3. Include only one link: the company website, your blog, LinkedIn, etc.
  4. Customize your background and color scheme; don't use the default.
  5. Key tools: HootSuite, TweetDeck, Seesmic, and similar tools can help you schedule tweets and monitor keywords, lists, and specific tweeters.
